christmas trees

Nothing beats a real Christmas tree.  The way they smell, the way they look...simply enchanting.

Which is why Tim and I bought a fake tree last night.

Wait...what?

Ok, here's the story.

Tim and I had been planning for weeks to buy a real Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving.  We'd imagined where we'd put it and how it would smell and how it would look with all the twinkling lights on it.

Last night, we finally got the chance to go get one.  As we were on our way out the door, our neighbor casually asked us what we were up to.

"Oh, we're just gonna go get a Christmas tree!"

"A fake one or a real one?"

"A real one."

"Oh yeah, we got real ones up until this year, too.  Then last year, we were decorating our tree and a Brown Recluse spider bit me.  I waited a couple of days to go to the hospital, and by the time I did, they said if I'd waited any longer, they would have had to amputate my leg.  But I only had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days."

I almost peed my pants.

My eyes were probably as wide as baseballs.

After we got in our car, Tim and I started squealing at each other.  [No manly noises for Tim where spiders are concerned.]

"Uhh...maybe we should get a fake tree."

"Yeah that sounds like a good idea."

Which is how we ended up with a fake tree from Walmart.

Don't worry, it looks enchanting, too.

And I'm sure the pine air fresheners we're gonna buy will smell just like a real tree and I won't even notice the difference.

[Or so I tell myself.]

Thank goodness we have a fake one, that is terrifying! However growing up we always had real trees and never had any spiders! But good call on the fake one, I can picture Timmy shrieking lol!

Hahahaha! Love this! And although it freaks me out... nothing can stop me from getting a real tree. I think it might just be that ladies fault... why did she wait so long?!

Spiders don't scare me. If the neighbor had said roaches...well then that's a different story.

Also, DON'T go with the fresheners. Just get some fresh limbs and make them into a wreath to put in the same room.

More also, don't you think fake trees should come with leaves that drop and all start falling off by the end of the holiday to make the experience more authentic? Maybe even change color a little.

Hahaha! That story would have scared the crap out of me too! We just got our tree last night and so far no bites! So scary though! I want to see pictures of your tree!!

Ah Katie...I love your blog! You are so hilarious! I even read some of them to my husband so that we can laugh out loud together! Anyways, I just thought that you'd like to know!

Ha ha! Fake trees are cool too. Our Walmart tree has treated us well for a number of years- and is so much cheaper too! However, we did get a real tree this year, and I won't pretend that I'm not in heaven each time I walk by the living room. The tree combined with the cinnamon ornaments... sigh... What is better than that?! Maybe you should get a real wreath. Though I guess a spider could live in there too. Sad you and Tim can't make it with your fam for Court's wedding.

Not to mention you can keep them up as long as you want! Every other year I decorate mine with Valentine's decorations just for the fun of it.
